The appointed surveyor will be required to identify and prioritise recommendations on any remedial works which are identified during the survey. The objective of the asbestos surveys will involve a material assessment of asbestos containing materials (ACMs) that may be disturbed or damaged during normal activities, maintenance or through the installation of new equipment. One of the main objectives of these surveys is to assess the ability of ACMs to release dangerous asbestos fibres into the air, if disturbed or damaged The survey will involve minor intrusive work and some disturbance. The extent of intrusion will vary between buildings and depend on what is reasonably practicable for individual areas, but NHSBT is totally committed to enabling free access to allow for an accurate and robust survey to be completed. The surveys will involve the taking of samples and subsequent laboratory analysis to confirm or refute asbestos content. Any materials presumed to contain asbestos must have its condition assessed. The areas inspected should include underfloor coverings above false ceilings, (ceiling voids) lofts, inside risers, service shafts, service ducts and lift shafts, basements cellars, underground rooms, under crofts, plant rooms (this list is not exhaustive).
