It produces neutrons by firing a narrow, high-energy beam of protons at the Target. The neutrons are then slowed down by allowing them to deposit heat in the liquid hydrogen and solid methane moderators (both cryogenically cooled) and then extracted through holes in the reflector. This procurement is for Moderators, it is our intention to purchase up to a maximum of Qty 3 Decoupled Moderators and Qty 1 Coupled Moderator per year, over a total of 4 years.
