This knowledge will allow the Department to establish strong policy measures which will steer the chemicals sector towards the best bio-based production routes, allowing them to prosper in a sector which currently benefits from the largest R&D spend in the UK. This project will help shape our advice on the right level of ambition for chemicals- and materials-based applications of engineering biology, which was identified as a priority technology area in the UK Innovation Strategy.",
