The project is currently awaiting the approval of the Development Consent Order from the Secretary of State for Transport and this is expected to be given in early Spring 2020. Subject to receiving approval, the project is forecast to commence on site in late summer 2020 and will take around 2 years to complete. Package: Surfacing We are seeking to appoint a Surfacing Contractor to support the development of the programme, methodology and target price. The successful bidder will also be appointed as Preferred Bidder for the Construction Stage (PCF6), and subject to the agreement of final target price, will deliver the Surfacing for the project without need for any further competition. Outline Scope of Works The surfacing works involve the construction of approximately 100,000m2 of new main carriageway and associated interchanges and side roads. A Bill of Quantities is provided along with layout drawings. The majority of the new A303 dual carriageway sits to the north of the existing A303 however the new and existing carriageways cross at approx. ch3300 & ch3750 which will result in some temporary surfacing works. Programme The construction programme is still under development. The initial surfacing works will involve the construction of Steat Hill Link and Downhead Junction Link with surfacing taking place in early 2021. The main carriageway surfacing is expected to take place during 2022. Tenderers should allow for 12 machine visits and 8 footpath / handlay visits. The surfacing works will be constructed within normal working hours with the exception of the tie ins and crossing points on the A303 which are likely to be undertaken during night time working. Extra Over costs for night time working should be clearly identified. Bidders are invited to propose any areas of innovation that may offer benefits to the project including price, programme and quality and these will be taken into consideration when selecting the Preferred Bidder.
