It is important that people have the information and confidence to make choices that are right for them. It helps people to develop positive, healthy and consensual relationships, and enables them to protect themselves and their partners from sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and prevent unplanned pregnancies. Gloucestershire's vision for its sexual health services is to 'improve sexual health for the population of Gloucestershire and reduce sexual health inequalities'. A core part of this is primary prevention: the provision of education and support to enable individuals to protect themselves against poor sexual health; understand more about healthy relationships; and feel assured in their choices and rights in relation to sex. The Prevention Services will play a key role in supporting Gloucestershire's vision by focusing on the primary prevention of poor sexual health, with a particular focus on individuals and groups likely to be at higher risk of poor outcomes.
