For Local Authorities Trading Standards Officers to carry out effective legal metrology regulation of equipment, it is necessary for local weights and measures authorities (Trading Standards, and TSSNI in Northern Ireland) to have access to the Type Approval Certificates. This is particularly pertinent when investigating complaints, on initial verification and when equipment is being put back into use following repair (reverification). Rather than Local Authorities having the financial burden of paying annual fees to access the system, through this contract BEIS will make a one-off payment to CTSI to enable future free access for the Local Authorities."
