However, uptake of these checks remains low. In Birmingham in 2018 to 2019, 85,514 people were offered an NHS Health Check, of which 33,327 people took up the opportunity to have one. Campaign overview The primary aim of this health promotion programme is to increase uptake of NHS Health Checks among those who are eligible, aged 40 to 74 years old in Birmingham. The campaign seeks to ensure that people in this age group are aware of NHS Health Checks, what they are and why they are important, and how to access them - not just for the first time when they reach 40, but on a continuous basis every 5 years until they turn 74.
