"description": "Following a procurement process to design and build two new ferries for use on the Clyde and Hebrides Ferry Services, Caledonian MacBrayne are now expecting two 100 metre 'dual-fuel' ferries to enter service in June and August 2018. The ferries will be 'dual-fuel' vessels so they can operate on liquefied natural gas (LNG) and marine diesel. LNG is significantly cleaner and has been adopted by ferry operators in Northern Europe in response to tighter emissions regulations. Description of Services Required All seafarers serving on board LNG Fuelled ships should, prior to being assigned shipboard duties, receive appropriate ship and equipment specific familiarisation. In addition seafarers employed on LNG Fuelled ships should receive appropriate training on the risks and emergency procedures associated with fuels addressed by the IGF Code, in accordance with their duties and responsibilities. On that basis, the following training is required for seafarers and therefore will require a training provider/s to deliver training in line with these requirements. Relevant training will also be required for Port Staff who are regularly in the gas fuelling area or may be affected by any spills or releases from that area. Basic training for seafarers responsible for designated safety duties associated with the care, use or in emergency response to the fuel on board ships. The goal of Basic training should provide the basic safety crew with a basic understanding of the gas in question as a fuel, the technical properties of liquid and compressed gas, explosion limits, ignition sources, risk reducing and consequence reducing measures, and the rules and procedures that must be followed during normal operation and in emergency situations. The general basic training required for the basic safety crew is based on the assumption that the crew does not have any prior knowledge of gas, gas engines and gas systems. The Training provider should include specialists with in-depth knowledge of the gas in question and the technical gas systems that will be installed on board. The training should consist of both theoretical and practical exercises that involve gas and the relevant systems, as well as personal protection while handling liquid and compressed gas. Practical extinguishing of gas fires should form part of the training, and should take place at an approved safety centre. Advanced training for the masters, engineer officers and all personnel with immediate responsibility for the care and use of fuels and fuel systems Deck and engineer officers should have gas training beyond the general basic training. This training should be divided technically between deck and engineer officers and any crew members as required. This training should be designed by the training provider to cover: - Physical and chemical properties of fuels aboard LNG ships - Bunker simulator training - Fuel Supply Systems - Ventilation - Containment System - Precautions to prevent pollution - Monitoring and control compliance with legislative requirements - Take precautions to prevent hazards - Apply health& Safety precautions and measures -Have knowledge of the prevention, control and fire fighting and extinguishing systems onboard LNG ships which must include practical fire fighting training As this training is required to be refreshed we will require training providers to consider the commitment to deliver on-going training as part of a refresher programme which includes any updates to training regulations. David MacBrayne HR (UK) Ltd will require all training to be undertaken within the Glasgow area.",
