For more information see: http://www.publiccontractsscotland.gov.uk/info/InfoCentre.aspx?ID=2361 A summary of the expected community benefits has been provided as follows: The development of the weighbridge will be an opportunity to introduce new technology and infrastructure, which will benefit the council's area, namely because: There will be a sub-contracting opportunity for the civil engineering works, as we would like that the main contractor to sub-contract this task to a local civils company. There is a duty of care by any organisation that produces, keeps, imports or manages controlled Waste in Scotland to produce accurate waste figures/information. With this infrastructure, the Council will be able to produce reliable and accurate waste management data, and therefore will be complying with the Code of Practice, Duty of Care and other relevant Environmental Framework. With this equipment, the Council will be able aid the Police in their investigations. This will benefit them because it has the potential to eliminate their necessity to travel to neighbouring councils in order to weigh vehicles (reduce their fuel consumption, GHG vehicle emissions, time/man-hours, etc.). This will enable for instance officers to be more available locally instead of being busy in conducting their investigations somewhere else. It will be an opportunity to introduce an improved and safer traffic management plan and site safety procedures to the recycling centre. This will promote better road safety and general health and safety conditions to all workers and users.
