"description": "Many communities in Glasgow face challenges related to employment, education, and skills, all of which can be inhibitors for citizens achieving their full potential. Evidence suggests that these challenges are much harder to face without good public transport, allowing people to access services, better jobs and further and higher education opportunities more easily. A lack of good public transport can also increase and exacerbate social isolation and exclusion, affecting mental health and wellbeing. The Glasgow Community Plan identifies improvements to public transport as a major priority, noting that it often presents a barrier to the key objective of inclusive growth in the city by preventing access to services, learning opportunities and employment. There are a number of ways in which public transport can and does present a barrier to our citizens, these include: - Access to transport: cost, availability, frequency, quality, information, ticketing - Geographic location: transport provision varies greatly across the city, with some of the most deprived communities cut off from adjacent neighbourhoods and services. - Individual capacity: insight on how people understand and navigate existing transport provision - Planning: Often public transport is an afterthought when key planning decisions are being made, or when organisations are looking to downsize their services and close offices or relocate. - Data: There is limited data available on; existing service provision (punctuality, usage etc.); where demand exists but no service is provided and where people travel from and to. These key factors present a real opportunity to find an innovative solution to the problems faced by local communities, which are not currently being met. Such a solution requires a total reimagining of how to understand and meet local transport needs. There are some key questions we are looking to resolve as part of the challenge solution, these include - How does access to transport (cost, availability, frequency, quality, information, ticketing) shape our citizens in our most deprived neighbourhoods ability to actively participate in delivering inclusive growth? - What does data and information tell us about the impact of gaps in public transport provision on citizens ability to activity participate in the city achieving inclusive growth? - How do the needs of core groups shape our decisions and interventions to positively overcome the public transport barriers to achieving inclusive growth? - What scope is there to use data and information to evidence the impact of public transport as barrier for core citizen groups and the city in achieving inclusive growth? - How might we measure the impact of decisions and interventions in relation to public transport as a barrier to the city achieving inclusive growth? The overall scope of the project would be the development of a tool which enables the measurement and visualisation of the impact of public transport decisions and interventions on our citizen's ability to achieve Inclusive Growth. The solution would incorporate the ability to understand, measure and visualise past, live and future (predict) data..
