                    "description": "A service review has identified a need to carry out a technology refresh as a result of ageing analytical platforms. The current equipment is subject to increasing amounts of breakdowns and trouble shooting in a number of the Vista analytical platforms. High sensitivity troponin (HST) is clinically required across both the Ninewells Hospital and Perth Royal Infirmary sites. High sensitivity assays are important for early and quick rule out/in of myocardial infarction and hence patient length of stay in ED and AMU. These assays can be delivered within a new equipment refresh. Compatibility with the existing Siemens Aptio Trak system is essential. It is considered that a one year extension to the current contract is required in order to provide a full equipment refresh and allow time for the Board to review a regional service model before commencing the next procurement exercise.",
                    "rationale": "Need for additional works, services or supplies by the original contractor/concessionaire: Requirement for a full equipment refresh by the original contractor to replace ageing anlaysers and provision of additional functionality with the provision of High Sensitivity Troponin assays therefore providing a more robust and reliable service. As part of the Board review on a regional service model it would not be desirable to transition to a new contractor which would result in significant inconvenience and duplication of cost as the evaluation, implementation, testing involved would require to commence significantly in advance of the end of the current contract."
