"description": "Background Highland Hospice is a partner in Grief Matters Highland along with Cruse Bereavement Care Scotland, Crocus Group and NHS Highland Chaplaincy Services. Grief Matters Highland is a nascent project the aim of which is to widen access and increase choice in bereavement care services available for adults and children/young people in the Highlands, ensuring bereavement services are offered on an equitable basis across the region regardless of factors such as age, mobility, location or cause of death of the loved one. The partners are responding to a perceived need identified during the delivery of their own services where they can see geographic and demographic gaps in what they provide. They are also responding to the Scottish Government 'Shaping Bereavement Care' report. Although published in 2011 there is a realisation that the recommendations have not been responded to adequately by public or third sector providers of bereavement support in the Highlands. The 2011 report sets a target to 'Ensure that bereavement care is provided on an equitable basis to relatives and carers following death in ways that are responsive to their needs and which reflect spiritual, religious and cultural requirements.' Partners recognise that working as individual organisations none of them have the resources or model of delivery to provide such a comprehensive service but by pooling resources and expertise there is opportunity to significantly expand access and choice for the communities within the Highlands. Earlier this year the four partners agreed a Memorandum of Understanding which is provided in the procurement documents. The partners hold information in relation to their own services and some areas where they have identified gaps. We now require support to collate all existing information as well as undertaking additional research and stakeholder consultation to create a comprehensive picture of bereavement support across the Highlands which will underpin future developments by the partnership and provide clear evidence for use in funding applications. Project Activities Highland Hospice requires a consultant to work with our staff and those in our partner organisations to undertake a needs assessment for bereavement support in Highland, specifically to: 1. Collate information on existing bereavement support available in communities across the Highlands to provide a comprehensive picture of bereavement support services in the region. 2. Survey primary health professionals and other community stakeholders to assess the numbers of people presenting with bereavement issues and the advice and interventions being offered. Highland Hospice have contact with primary health professionals and community groups across the region and can support the delivery of this survey 3. Identify, from existing studies, areas of the country recognised to have good provision and / or other research identifying demand for bereavement support and compare this to provision in Highland. 4. Use information gathered to identify areas of geography and demography where bereavement services are absent, not sufficient to meet demand or are failing to be used equally by all who might benefit. 5. Produce a final report containing this information and providing evidence for use in funding applications. Purpose of this Contract At the end of this contract Highland Hospice wish to have a clear road map for the development of Grief Matters Highland. This will include: - A full picture of current services offered by partners and other organisations - Recommendations for new services to be provided by individual partners or one or more partners working together - Evidence of the need for these services to support funding applications",
