"description": "This is a Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) competition funded by The Scottish Government Can Do Fund and hosted by NHS Lothian, acting as an agent on behalf of the Golden Jubilee National Hospital. It is intended that the overall procurement will be delivered over 2 phases. Phase 1: research and development contracts, feasibility study It is anticipated that the feasibility study R&D contracts will be in the region of up to 30,000 GBP (inc. VAT). This is for each project for up to 3 months. We expect to fund up to 5 projects. The assessors will consider fair value in making their evaluation. We would welcome bids that bring together a consortium of technology specialists and third sector partners (including social enterprises). This should be an innovative solution that: - creates a new approach to encouraging greater levels of volunteering in communities, particularly in areas of deprivation, - recognises volunteering contributions through a personalised value based approach which will have a range of ways of rewarding this, - enables the secure capture and analysis of real time data on the demand for volunteering activity and at the same time the availability of volunteering capacity to then meet this, - allows for the quicker validation of volunteers, including meeting the requirements of PVA and PVC. Phase 2: research and development contracts, prototype development and testing The second phase is likely to involve up to 2 R&D contracts being awarded to solution developers chosen from the successful phase 1 applicants to develop further their prototype and undertake field testing for up to 12 months. The funding for this is still to be confirmed. Those wishing to apply to participate in this competition must ensure that they can answer Yes to the following questions below: Q1: In progressing your initial ideas into an outline solution will you be able to fully cover both the recruitment and management of volunteers alongside developing the technology requirements that will deliver the final solution? Q2:To facilitate stakeholder engagement at any one of the acute hospital sites in the Borders, Fife and Lothian will you have the flexibility and ability to attend face to face and group meetings when given 4 working days notice?. Please see the attached SBRI documentation. You must register your interest to access this documentation.",

"description": "SBRI provides innovative solutions to challenges faced by the public sector. This can lead to better public services and improved efficiency and effectiveness. SBRI supports economic growth and enables the development of innovative products and services. It does this through the public procurement of research and development (R&D). SBRI generates new business opportunities for companies and provides a route to market for their ideas. It also bridges the seed funding gap experienced by many early-stage companies. This competition follows the same SBRI format as those run by Innovate UK, whose templates and guidance have been adopted for use in this competition. Additional information on the SBRI process can be obtained from Innovate UK. A briefing event for this competition will provisionally be held on 14th January 2020, providing an opportunity to hear in more detail the challenge being faced and the environment within which the solution will require to sit. This will also provide an opportunity for potential collaborations to be formed that will meet the requirement for having expertise in the recruitment and management of volunteers alongside developing the required technology infrastructure.
