Striking the balance between the conservation of the collection and visitor safety is of paramount importance. As the trees age, removal on the grounds of Health and Safety is not always in the best interests of the collection. Tree decay detection instruments would make possible the collection of data that would allow assessment of decay and inform management decisions. Risk assessment of trees with decay will become more data driven and better implementation of controls will allow these valuable trees to continue contributing to the collection. Better tree failure prediction will also improve visitor safety, and offer us new solutions to monitoring the impact of diseases in the collection. The instruments would be utilised by all four gardens.",
