"description": "The Institute of Molecular Plant Sciences is currently working on a short-term project spanning 24 months, which began in October 2023. The project is focused exclusively on measuring small Arabidopsis plants. Giving the number of plant lines to be generated and characterised within a brief timeline, a dedicated piece of equipment is required for high-throughput measurements of plant gas exchange and fluorescence. This equipment is critical for measuring changes or enhancements in photosynthetic performance such as A/Ci curve analysis. To meet the above requirements the LI-COR LI-6800F Portable Photosynthesis System with Fluorometer (LICOR 6800) has been identified as the sole equipment with readily available software and tools tailored for high-throughput 'RACIR' A/Ci curve measurements (Stinziano et al. 2017, Plant, Cell and Environment 40:1256). This capability is paramount for achieving the stipulated high-throughput objectives",

This capability is paramount for achieving the stipulated high-throughput objectives. No other supplier provides equipment that generates data as accurately and rapidly, which is critical for measuring minute differences in photosynthetic performance for some plant lines in this project. Market research was carried out and the end user is confident that this equipment represents the only viable solution for their needs. Market research showed competitor's equipment was not suited for Arabidopsis leaves, which the project is focused exclusively on measuring. Based on feedback from other researchers, it was noted that alternative equipment on the market takes longer than the LI-COR 6800 for daily calibrations. Faster calibration processes not only save valuable time and resources but also contribute significantly to research output. LI-COR analysers are the only user cleanable analysers on the market. LI-COR have stated that 70% of their factory repairs were a result of analyser contamination. This reduces the risk of downtime that could occur, which would have major implications in the project. The LI-COR LI-6800 Gas analysers are located in the Sensor head this minimises system time delays. This method allows rapid direct control of CO2 and H2O at the leaf not just in the incoming gas stream. Competitor's Analysers are located in the console. Unique to the LI-6800, both single-point matching and range matching are available for the sample and reference cells. During non-steady state measurements (where concentrations are continually changing), matching is done over a range of concentrations versus at a single, steady state concentration.",
