        "title": "Spectral Cytometer - QMRI",
        "description": "The Queen's Medical Research Institute (QMRI) has received funding to purchase a Spectral Cell Analyzer Cytometer. The objective of this purchase is to meet the growing complexities of the required research. The selected cytometer will enable high-throughput and high-dimensional cell analysis, offering greater flexibility in panel design and the characterisation of over 45 parameters (compared to 14 with the existing instrument). It will also integrate seamlessly with the current instrument, ensuring continuity in operations, and is adaptable to future needs, thus extending the equipment's lifetime.",

        "procurementMethodDetails": "Award procedure without prior publication of a call for competition",
        "procurementMethodRationale": "The Spectral Cell Analyser ID7000 is a flow cytometer, which will assess individual cells and measure their characteristics, such as the number or type of proteins displayed on the cell surface. The analyser records these measurements. To meet UoE research priorities, any analyser purchased had to meet a certain set of criteria. 1. Fully spectral 2. Capable of simultaneous detection of at least 45 fluorescent colours 3. Using more than 75 detectors 4. Equipped with 5 lasers (355, 405, 488, 561 and 637 nm) for high-dimensionality analysis. 5. Potential to be upgraded to 6 and 7 lasers. This is important to future-proof INCR needs as novel fluorochromes are released on the market. Purchasing a 320nm laser would provide the additional benefit of effective autofluorescence removal. 6. Equipped with a system to standardise the acquisition of data to support longitudinal studies. 7. Supplied with software that enables unsupervised use of the analyser by researchers, and that is accessible from computers not physically attached to the analyser. 8. Equipped with an auto-sampler supporting tubes and plates of various formats. This technology is met by the provider this award is made to, which is the most advanced technology, thus future future-proofed. This could not be provided by the other suppliers engaged. This award will provide INCR with state-of-the-art flow cytometry technology to maintain a globally competitive environment in which early career researchers can develop research programmes using equipment that will allow them to answer ambitious and novel research questions. This will also improve the future job prospects of postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers, and technical staff by developing skill sets in new ways of acquiring and analysing high-parameter data that are highly desirable in both academic and commercial settings. In the longer term, new knowledge generated in the areas of cardiovascular, metabolic and neurosciences is expected to lead to broader societal benefits, including through the identification of novel drug targets, informing future research into personalised approaches to maintaining health and treating disease.",
