Please read on for further background. In 2022, The Companies (Strategic Report) (Climate-related Financial Disclosure) Regulations 2022 and The Limited Liability Partnerships (Climate-related Financial Disclosure) Regulations 2022 were introduced. The regulations amended the Companies Act 2006 to make large companies and Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs) (more than 500 employees and PS500m net turnover) and Alternative Investment Market (AIM) companies and Public Interest Entity (PIEs) (both with more than 500 employees) provide climate-related financial disclosures in their strategic report. Companies are required to report information that is deemed material, if its omission or misrepresentation could reasonably be expected to influence the decisions primary users take based on the annual report and accounts. This requirement is aligned with the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures' (TCFD) recommendations requiring climate-related reporting on governance, strategy, risk management, and metrics and targets. The regulations were introduced to improve the quality and quantity of climate-related financial disclosures provided by large companies, LLPs, AIM companies and PIEs. The aim is to support investors to more efficiently allocate capital and support to a more climate-resilient economy. This multimethod research proposal includes content analysis of disclosures, and interviews and surveys with relevant stakeholders (company representatives and investors).
