## Summary

The Home Office, located in London, is currently in the planning stage of a procurement process titled "Next steps for Biometric Self-Enrolment Technologies." This initiative focuses on the development of biometric sensors and related technologies, with key engagement culminating on 5th August 2022. An open engagement event will take place on 14th July 2022 to discuss the Home Office's vision for biometrics, following previous feasibility trials conducted in late 2021.

This procurement process presents significant opportunities for technology firms, particularly those specialising in biometric systems, optical character recognition equipment, and fingerprint readers. Businesses that can contribute innovative solutions in self-service kiosks or smartphone app development would be well-positioned to compete. The engagement event will allow potential bidders to align their offerings with the Home Office's requirements and network with key stakeholders in the industry.

## Notice

To assess the maturity of industry capabilities, the Home Office ran Biometric Self-Enrolment Feasibility Trials in November and December 2021. A report summarising the findings of the trials is published https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/biometric-self-enrolment-feasibility-trials/biometric-self-enrolment-feasibility-trials The Home Office is now planning the next phase of biometric self-enrolment technology testing. It will be splitting up the technology testing into: 1. Self-service kiosk pilot 2. Second round of feasibility trials focussed on smartphone apps We are delighted to invite industry and academia to an open engagement event on the Home Office's vision for biometrics, which will include more details on the next steps following the November 2021 feasibility trials. The event will be hosted by JSaRC and will be held on Thursday, 14 July 2022 from 15:00 - 17:00, via MS Teams.
