## Summary

The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority is seeking proposals for the project titled "STEP WP9 Task 1 - Waste Disposal and Decommissioning Optioneering." This project falls within the engineering services sector and is based in Abingdon, England. The procurement is currently in the Tender stage, with a deadline for submissions set for 11th July 2019. The project aims to develop solutions for processing and recycling waste materials generated during the nuclear operation of a STEP device, building on previous research from EUROfusion studies. The procurement method utilised for this contract is an open procedure.

This tender represents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in engineering services, waste management, and research and development, particularly those with a background in nuclear technology and environmental solutions. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are encouraged to participate, as this project may provide avenues for innovation and collaboration within the technical and engineering sectors. Businesses capable of delivering expertise in waste disposal, recycling strategies, and decommissioning planning would be well-positioned to compete for this contract and contribute to the future developments in fusion energy.

## Notice

UKAEA wishes to initiate a contract to explore the processing, disposal and recycling solutions for waste materials that are likely to be generated during the nuclear operation of a STEP device. This will build upon the research-based waste assessment studies already performed by UKAEA as part of EUROfusion demonstration fusion power plant ('DEMO') studies but with a more engineering and technological focus. The project is aimed at guiding future STEP R&D, for example to indicate if the current "low-activation" constraints can be relaxed or if further mitigation steps are required in the design of STEP. The decommissioning plans for STEP should become part of the design phase and this contract will aim to deliver a prototype plan for a fusion device.
