## Summary

The procurement process, initiated by Newcastle University, sought proposals for the supply of High Performance End of Line Test Equipment under the tender title "(NU/1612-4) Supply of High Performance End of Line Test Equipment." This project falls under the industry category of electrical machinery, aimed at enhancing the UK's capacity in advanced manufacturing, particularly in power electronics and electric motors. The tender was completed, with an award value of £922,456, following a selective procurement method using a restricted procedure. The tender period concluded on 18th June 2021, with the contract period lasting from 1st July 2021 to 31st January 2022, and it located in the North East of England.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses involved in the manufacturing and supply of electrical machinery and testing equipment. Companies specialising in the design, production, and maintenance of high-performance testing systems, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, would be well-suited to compete, given their potential to bring innovative solutions to the forefront of the electric motor testing market. Engaging in such contracts not only enhances business growth but also aligns with the broader goals of advancing clean technologies and electrification in diverse sectors including transport, energy, and construction.

## Notice

The Driving the Electric Revolution (DER) is an Innovate UK (IUK) Challenge program to support UK industry to seize the economic opportunities from the global transition to clean technologies and electrification. The programme will help businesses across numerous sectors including transport, energy, construction and agriculture to invest and work together to capitalise on the UK's strengths in this technology. The DER program vision is "To make the UK globally recognised as the centre of excellence in PEMD manufacturing processes". As part of that program, Newcastle University has been awarded a large grant to establish a new DER Innovation Centre (DER-IC) in the North East of England. The NE DER-IC will concentrate on the prototyping and scale-up of power electronics and electric motors. This tender was focussed on the motor manufacturing aspect and the purchase of relevant equipment to manufacture and test electric motors. There were six separate equipment systems being tendered: i) Leak Test system (Section 3.2) ii) Magnetic Scanner system (Section 3.3) iii) Motor test Dynamometer/EOL Tester (Section 3.4) iv) Vibration Shaker system (Section 3.5) v) Environmental Test Chamber System (Section 3.6) vi) Environmental Thermal Stock Chamber system (Section 3.7) The scope was for the supply, delivery, and commissioning of each system as detailed in the ITT, with after sales support, a minimum 12 months parts and labour warranty and maintenance. This should include on completion of installation a complete set of operating and maintenance documents. This requirement was only advertised to all Sellers appointed to Lot 5: High Performance End of Line Test of (NU/1612) Flexible Electric Machine Assembly Line Dynamic Purchasing System (OJEU Ref: 2020/S 229-565620).
