## Summary

Cefas has awarded a contract titled "CEFAS24-125 Contract for long read sequencing on pollack samples" to the Earlham Institute. This procurement falls under the "Analysis services" industry category. The project is aimed at enhancing population genomics research by sequencing pollack samples from the Northeast Atlantic. The contract period begins on 10th October 2024 and ends on 15th March 2025. This direct procurement method was initiated as a single tender action below the threshold, with the award officially published on 16th October 2024. Key operations will occur within locations including the British Overseas Territories, Channel Islands, Europe, Isle of Man, the United Kingdom, and the Rest of the World.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in genomic sequencing and biotechnology services. SMEs are particularly suitable for competing due to the nature of the project and cost considerations. The contract’s focus on high-resolution genomic markers provides an excellent avenue for businesses with expertise in DNA extraction, quality control, and sequencing using platforms like PacBio or other long-read sequencing technologies. Companies that secure such contracts can leverage this work to enhance their portfolios, establish credibility in the scientific community, and create future business opportunities in the growing field of genomics.

## Notice

Background: The reference genome for pollack originated from a specimen collected from the English Channel. Cefas require a supplier to perform long read sequencing (using nanopore, pac-bio or other appropriate platform) on pollack samples collected from alternative areas of the Northeast Atlantic. This work will feed into ongoing population genomics projects by providing better resolution for regional genomic markers. Requirement: To aid with the above project, Cefas require long read sequencing and the supplieris asked to provide a cost per sample. As standard, muscle tissue samples are provided in LVL genetic sampling tubes with ethanol: https://www.lvl-technologies.com/en/sample-storage/safe-2d-tubes-engl/safe-96-tissue-collection-951. * Samples will be submitted as they are received by Cefas from externalcollaborators with the final sample submission date being February 2025. * DNA extraction (high molecular weight). * DNA QC information supplied to Cefas before library preparation. * Library preparation of samples. * ~20 samples* aimed to be sequenced at x30 depth using PacBio or applicablelong-read sequencing platform. * Raw sequencing files to be provided in fastq.gz file format, delivered on hard disk *Please note that sample numbers may vary from the above
