## Summary

The Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust has initiated an open tender process for planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and inspections of fire dampers at Southport District General Hospital and Ormskirk District General Hospital. This procurement falls under the industry category of fire-protection devices and is classified with the CPV code 44482000. The tender was published on 12 November 2024, with the tender period concluding on 20 December 2024 at 12:00 PM, and the contract period running from 21 December 2024 to 22 December 2024. The procurement method being used is an open procedure, and the process is currently in the 'tender' stage. The initiative focuses on sustainable procurement, aiming to minimise environmental and social detriment through the use of environmentally friendly and ethically traded products.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in fire protection services and maintenance, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) due to their suitability for this contract. Companies with expertise in conducting detailed inspections and remedial work on fire dampers as per given specifications will find this tender particularly advantageous. Additionally, businesses with a commitment to sustainable practices will have a competitive edge, as the NHS Trust is prioritising sustainability within their procurement cycle. This contract offers a valuable chance for growth by aligning with a prestigious NHS Trust serving a broad population base and fostering long-term partnerships in the healthcare sector.

## Notice

Mersey & West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust serve a core population of over 600,000 with a combined workforce of around 9,000 highly committed and skilled staff delivering acute hospital care, intermediate care, primary care and community-based services. The Mersey Regional Burns and Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Northwest Regional Spinal Injuries Centre at Southport Hospital serves a population of over 4 million across the whole of Cheshire and Merseyside, The Isle of Man and North Wales. Objectives for Sustainable Procurement Sustainability in purchasing need not necessarily cost more and there is now a much wider choice of environmentally friendly products. "Green goods" are not necessarily more expensive; often if the 'whole life cost' of a product is considered the cheapest product is more expensive in the long run. Whole life costing means taking into account the total cost of an item over its lifetime such as raw materials sourcing, running costs, transportation, admin costs and disposal costs. The overarching objective is for sustainability considerations to be addressed within the procurement cycle in all instances. The more specific objectives in terms of sustainable procurement are: To seek alternatives to products and processes which are detrimental to the environment and social well-being by using more environmentally friendly and ethically traded products and processes. To minimise waste, including: any packaging, waste produced by the product (or service) in question, and waste generated by the eventual disposal of the product. MWL are looking for a partner to carry out planned preventative maintenance and inspections to the fire dampers at Southport District General Hospital and Ormskirk District General Hospital. Inspections will be required to develop a detailed list of remedial work that has been identified and it will be the suppliers responsibility to carry out all of the remedials as per the specification.
