## Summary

The procurement process pertains to a trial for a Demand Responsive Bus Service, initiated by Transport for London (TfL). The project falls under the transport equipment industry category and is based in London, England. Currently in the planning stage, the engagement phase has a deadline set for 27th June 2018. The total value of this contract has been estimated at £700,000. The tender process is intended to explore innovative bus service options that respond flexibly to commuter demands.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses in the transport and technology sectors, particularly those specialising in advanced routing algorithms and flexible public transport solutions. Companies equipped to offer research and development services or consultancy in transport technology would be well-suited to compete. Additionally, firms focusing on public-service buses could contribute effectively to this project, making it an attractive avenue for growth in enhancing London’s transport infrastructure.

## Notice

Demand responsive bus services are those provided by public service vehicles which follow either flexible routes, flexible timetables, or both. These types of service have existed in various forms for several decades. However, in recent years improvements in technology, including vastly improved routing algorithms, have opened up a number of new opportunities which could be used to enhance the availability of public transport for Londoners. We are exploring demand responsive bus services to better understand their potential to enhance London's transport network. In particular, and as articulated in the Mayor's Transport Strategy (MTS), we believe this type of service may have the potential to contribute to sustainable travel by 1) helping to achieve modal shift to public transport in areas where car dependence is greatest; 2) acting as a complement to the existing network and improving affordable access to essential services, employment, education and retail opportunities in areas with lower service coverage; and 3) helping to promote a preference for travel by public transport and active modes amongst those moving into new residential areas. We are considering working with a supplier (or suppliers) to run a co funded demand responsive bus service trial(s).
