## Summary

The Northumberland National Park Authority is seeking tenders for the project titled "Repair and Consolidation of Ridsdale Engine House," which aims to address urgent structural issues of this Grade II listed heritage site. This procurement process falls within the industry category of miscellaneous building structures and is classified under the works procurement category. The tender is currently in the active stage, with an open procurement method allowing all eligible contractors to submit their bids. The deadline for submitting tenders is 21 May 2018, with the contract period expected to commence on 18 June 2018 and conclude by 31 October 2018. The work will be located in the North East of England, reflecting the historical significance of the site tied to Northumberland's industrial past.

This tender presents a valuable opportunity for businesses engaged in heritage conservation, construction, and restoration projects, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that have the capacity to deliver specialised works on historical structures. Suitable contenders will possess experience in managing projects involving listed buildings and possess the capability to work within the constraints of the Heritage Lottery Fund's guidelines, ensuring that the vital repairs are conducted while preserving the site's cultural significance. With a project value of £35,000, this initiative not only offers financial benefits but also contributes to the revitalisation of an essential part of the region's heritage.

## Notice

The remains of the engine house at Ridsdale are a visible and enigmatic reminder of Northumberland's industrial past; a short lived venture yet with a lasting legacy. The construction of Ridsdale Ironworks saw the creation of the settlement of Ridsdale to house workers brought into this remote area to produce pig iron for the construction of Robert Stephenson's High Level Bridge in Newcastle. The engine house (Grade II listed), although generally sound, is a Scheduled Monument at Risk, with serious structural issues at a number of locations that require attention to remove this important monument from the Heritage at Risk Register. A condition survey of the structure (Repair and Consolidation of Ridsdale Ironworks- Doonan Architects Ltd 2016) revealed that two sections were in imminent danger of collapse. In partnership with Historic England, a management agreement has been secured with the landowner and scaffolding has been erected to protect the structure from further decline until work can begin. As part of the Revitalising Redesdale Landscape Partnership, funded through the Heritage Lottery Fund, repair and consolidations works to the standing masonry of the Engine House are to be carried out between July and October 2018. In order to meet this need the Authority is inviting tenders from eligible contractors able to deliver these services.
