## Summary

The University of Southampton has awarded a contract for a Wafer Dicing Saw and Post Wafer Cleaning system, falling under the Laboratory, optical and precision equipments category (CPV code: 38000000). The contract, valued at £205,000, is related to the university’s major engineering themes like Quantum Technologies, Photonics, and Advanced Manufacturing. The equipment will be installed in the university's cleanroom facility, located in the South East region of the United Kingdom. The procurement method utilized was an open procedure, and the procurement process progressed from tender to award stage, with the contract period set from 31st July 2024 to 28th February 2026. Key deadlines included the tender period ending on 28th May 2024 and the award date on 31st July 2024.

This procurement creates significant opportunities for businesses involved in the manufacturing and supply of laboratory and precision equipment. Companies specialising in semiconductor processing, optical technologies, and advanced manufacturing would be particularly well-suited to compete for such contracts, given the specialized nature of the equipment required. The project emphasizes high-quality standards in machine surfaces and structures, providing room for innovative solutions. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) were considered suitable, making it a viable growth opportunity for these businesses to partner with prestigious institutions like the University of Southampton and contribute to pioneering research in quantum technologies and photonics.

## Notice

The University of Southampton seeks to acquire a complete dicing system for the University's optical and semiconductor materials processing capabilities for a number of high-impact projects in the major engineering themes of Quantum Technologies, Photonics and Advanced Manufacturing. This system is a replacement for the current dicing saw for Building 53 back-end of line cleanroom facility and an upgrade to meet the demands of current projects and technologies. Dicing is a fundamental part of the cleanroom and underpins a significant number of ongoing and future grants. The acquisition of this system will enable university researchers to machine surfaces and micron sized ridge structures with nanoscale surface roughness and low amounts of topside chipping in optical and semiconductor materials. This dicing machine will allow the fabrication of new devices that will tackle fundamental research problems in quantum light-matter interactions, quantum sensors, and telecommunications.
