Waste packaging proposals are assessed through our Disposability Assessment process [ ]. One element of a Disposability Assessment is a Transport Safety Assessment, whereby the suitability of a packaging proposal is assessed against the requirements for transport through the public domain to a geological disposal facility [ ]. The safety of radioactive waste transport is ensured through compliance with the IAEA Transport Regulations [ ], the fundamental principal of which is that safety is ensured through the design of packages and limits imposed on their contents. Demonstration of the safety of transport packages is made in a Package Design Safety Report (PDSR).
