## Summary

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy is currently in the planning stage for the "SBRI - Boosting Access for SMEs to Energy Efficiency (BASEE) Competition Information Day." This event is scheduled to take place on 20 March 2019 in London, where organisations can learn about the competition aimed at facilitating energy efficiency among SMEs. Key dates include the engagement end date on 8 May 2019 and the expected opening of the competition around 11 March 2019. The competition will provide funding, totalling up to £5.6 million, for innovative proposals in energy management services.

This procurement presents significant opportunities for SMEs, large enterprises, and other organisations involved in developing innovative energy efficiency solutions. Eligible businesses include those offering business models that simplify investment transactions, technical tools for assessing energy savings, and other creative approaches to promote energy efficiency. Companies specializing in energy management, sustainability, and technology development would be particularly well-positioned to participate in this competition, as it seeks to enhance the UK’s energy efficiency landscape while facilitating paths to market for various innovative solutions.

## Notice

The Department for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy will be holding an Information Day on 20 March 2019 for the Boosting Access for SMEs to Energy Efficiency (BASEE) competition. This will follow the publication of competition guidance which we aim to publish week beginning 11th March 2019. The Information Day will provide an opportunity for attendees to hear more about the purpose of the competition as well as details on how to apply and opportunity to ask questions. We expect this to be a half day event to be held in London, starting at 9.30am. Lunch will be provided and the event will finish after that. For those who are unable to attend there will be a webinar following the Information Day, details for this will be made available nearer the time. The competition will make available up to PS5.6m of funding for innovative solutions that reduce transaction costs and encourage the take up of energy efficiency by SMEs. Projects are envisaged to fall broadly into three categories: * Business models that look to simplify and standardise elements of the investment; or * A new technical tool/solution, such as a platform which provides a standardised method of assessing and displaying potential savings from a portfolio of buildings, or to match potential businesses who want to install energy efficiency with technology providers. * Other innovative solutions to facilitate investment in energy efficiency for SMEs The BASEE competition is expected to open week beginning 11th March 2019 with around an eight-week window for bids to be submitted. The competition will be in two phases with up to PS60k per project available in Phase 1 for up to 10 projects where projects will undertake feasibility studies; and up to PS1m per project available for piloting of up to 5 Phase 1 projects that successfully progress to Phase 2. Eligibility: This competition is open to all organisations that can demonstrate a route to market. This includes SMEs and large enterprises, academic, financial, research, public and third sector organisations. The competition is UK wide and aims to fund projects that can demonstrate market potential within any commercial sector, with a strong possibility of replicability. Funding will only cover the facilitation of the investment in energy efficiency, and will not cover physical purchase of energy efficient technologies. Projects can propose supporting energy efficiency measures alongside other measures such as demand side response, renewable energy and metering technologies or wider renovation/refurbishment works. However, the proposals must clearly demonstrate how it is facilitating energy efficiency improvements.
