## Summary

The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority has initiated a tender titled "STEP WP4 - Design Study of Cryogenic Sealing Solutions," aimed at selecting consultants to investigate and report on optimal cryogenic sealing solutions for liquid helium connections. This procurement falls under the services sector, specifically within the electricity and nuclear energy categories, and is being conducted through an open procedure. The tender was published on 9th July 2019, with submissions accepted until 2nd August 2019. The contract period is expected to commence on 3rd August 2019 and conclude on 22nd November 2019, with delivery addresses spanning British Overseas Territories, the Channel Islands, Europe, the Isle of Man, and the United Kingdom.

This tender presents substantial growth opportunities for engineering firms and specialists in cryogenic technology. Companies that focus on the design and implementation of innovative sealing solutions or materials for extreme temperature applications would be particularly well-suited to compete. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are encouraged to participate, fostering a diverse range of proposals that could enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of connection solutions in the nuclear energy sector.

## Notice

The purpose of this tender is to select Consultant(s) to (1) perform studies and report cryogenic sealing solution(s) which most closely satisfy the stated criteria and (2) to identify and to price the development work to achieve or further develop the connection solutions. Solutions are required for liquid helium connections (operating at or near 4 K), which can be easily made/remade, e.g. by a compression fit, during maintenance periods (at room temperature). It should be indicated if the proposed solution would operate equally well in a temperature range from 4-100 K (e.g. helium gas at 20-30 K or liquid nitrogen at 77 K) and what, if any, modifications or development would be required.
