## Summary

The University of Portsmouth e-Tendering is currently undertaking a procurement process titled "19/96 - Defibrillators" within the health and care industry. The aim is to purchase eight pre-hospital manual external defibrillators for use in their simulation facilities to enhance training for students in advanced life support scenarios. The tender is classified under the CPV code 33182100 and employs an open procurement method. The tender period is set to conclude on 27th May 2020, while the contract is expected to commence on 28th May 2020 and run until 31st July 2020. This procurement opportunity is located in Portsmouth, South East England, with all interested parties required to express their interest through the University of Portsmouth's In-Tend portal.

This tender offers significant opportunities for businesses involved in the manufacture and supply of emergency medical equipment, particularly those that can provide high-quality defibrillators meeting advanced training needs. Companies specialising in medical devices, educational training equipment, or healthcare solutions would be particularly well-suited to compete, especially those that can demonstrate experience with simulation technologies. Participation in this tender could potentially enhance a business's visibility in the public sector and open avenues for future contracts within healthcare training and support services.

## Notice

The School of Health and Care Professions is looking to purchase 8 of PRE-HOSPITAL Manual External Defibrillators for use in our simulation facilities. Around 45% of the simulation run by allied health courses uses a defibrillator, primarily by paramedics for adult and paediatric advanced and intermediate life support. A defibrillator is used to administer an electric shock to the heart to restart it in the event of cardiac arrest. In the community, automated external defibrillators are located which can be used by members of the public who respond to an incident, usually with the assistance of a trained person over the phone. A paramedic requires not only the ability to administer a shock to the patient but also to have a wide range of monitoring and guidance from a pre-hospital defibrillator. At the University of Portsmouth we simulate the clinical scenarios students and professionals will work in, and wish to provide equipment that mirrors what is in use in practice. It is essential that the defibrillators work both on 'real' patients, to train students to use them for monitoring physical parameters, but also on our medical manikins which simulate patients requiring more advanced procedures such as a shock.
