## Summary

The Local Government Association (LGA) is currently conducting an open tender for the update of the "LGA Councillor guide to handling intimidation". This initiative aims to provide practical support to councillors in England and Wales, addressing issues of intimidation and abuse that undermine democratic processes. The tender is classified under research and development services, with a monetary range between £10,000 and £25,000. The tender period concludes on 7th February 2022 at 17:00, while the contract is expected to run from 11th February 2022 to 31st March 2022. The procurement is actively seeking responses from interested parties located in London, United Kingdom.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in consultancy services related to local governance, public policy, and community engagement. Companies with expertise in research and development services, particularly those focused on democratic integrity and public trust initiatives, will be well-positioned to compete. The initiative underscores the LGA's commitment to fostering strong local leadership, making it a prime opportunity for firms aiming to innovate in the field of civic engagement and support local governments in combatting intimidation.

## Notice

The Local Government Association (LGA) is a politically-led, cross-party organisation that works on behalf of councils to ensure local government has a strong, credible voice with national government. We aim to influence and set the political agenda on issues that matter to councils, so they are able to deliver local solutions to national problems. We also provide a range of practical support to councils and councillors to support local government to continuously improve and innovate for the benefit of their residents. Intimidation and abuse of councillors undermines democracy; it can prevent elected members from representing the communities they serve, prevent individuals from aspiring to become councillors and undermine public trust in democratic processes. In 2019, the LGA in partnership with the Welsh LGA published its first councillor guide to handling intimidation to support councillors to manage issues of abuse and intimidation in-person and online. The LGA has since committed to working across the four nations of the UK to towards stopping these harmful behaviours taking place. This work falls under LGA Business plan priorities around Strong Local Leadership in which elected members should be empowered to tackle incidents of public intimidation.
