## Summary

The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) has awarded a contract for the "Hybrid Welding" project to TWI Ltd. The procurement process involved research into the use of controlled fusion for power generation, focusing on welding test rigs and tests on 316L steel. The contract, valued at 136,052 GBP, started on May 1, 2023, and will end on February 27, 2024. The procurement stage was an open procedure with a tender closing date on February 6, 2023. The project falls under the industry category of welding services and the delivery address is in the South East region of the United Kingdom.

This tender for the "Hybrid Welding" project by the UKAEA presents an opportunity for businesses with expertise in technical testing, analysis, and consultancy services, as well as technical inspection and testing services. Companies that have access to appropriate facilities and expertise to carry out welding tests and analysis on steel materials are well-suited to compete. The project requires businesses to optimise welding parameters for the hybrid welding system and ensure the quality of the resulting weld meets specified standards. Overall, businesses in the welding industry with the capability to conduct advanced welding tests and analysis are encouraged to consider participating in this tender to contribute to the research efforts of the UKAEA.

## Notice

UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA), based at the Culham Science Centre in Oxfordshire, hereafter referred to as the Purchaser, carries out research into the use of controlled fusion for the generation of power. Setup of specified welding test rigs and conduct a series of tests on 316L steel. The trials will involve the adjustment of weld parameters to optimise the performance of the hybrid welding system and the quality of the resulting weld, and as such the expertise of the supplier should be sufficient as to investigate the performance of the system and quality of the weld. EN ISO 13919-1:2019 can be used to assess the imperfections in the weld and compare the performance of different welding parameters for laser welded joints, ISO 5817:2014 can be used for other fusion welded joints. A combination of these standards may be relevant for assessing hybrid welding. The supplier should have access to appropriate facilities and expertise to carry out these tests and resulting analysis.
