Essential fish habitats are aquatic habitat resources which are necessary for fish spawning, feeding and growth. They Such habitats are important resources due to theirhave high ecological, value in supporting critical fish life stages, and their social and economic value for supporting fish populations and including provision of associated ecosystem services. Understanding where these habitats are located is vital to support effective habitat protection and healthy fish populations. It also allows the MMO to support the industry by conserving resources for future use, and preserves their intrinsic value. Data on the location of these habitats is improving yet still limited. This project will validate the findings of earlier projects to understand how the models we use can be applied more widely, increasing the utility of current data significantly.
