## Summary

The Defra Network eTendering Portal is seeking providers for the "Incident Air Monitoring Services Contract," classified under the mobile incident units category. The contract aims to support the AQinMI service, which functions in response to environmental and public health threats arising from airborne emissions. The tender was awarded on 23 November 2021, and the contract commenced on 1 December 2021, with a duration extending until 31 March 2026. The contract value is set at £800,000 and is open for suppliers across various regions, including the United Kingdom and British Overseas Territories.

This tender presents significant growth opportunities for businesses specialising in environmental monitoring and air quality management services. Companies with expertise in incident response, data collection, and analysis related to air quality, especially those experienced in working with large-scale incidents, would be well-suited to compete for similar future opportunities. Furthermore, the open procurement method encourages a diverse range of suppliers to participate, enhancing competition and innovation in the service delivery.

## Notice

The AQinMI service was established in 2009 to assess and monitor incidents generating large volumes of airborne emissions which may pose a threat to public health or sensitive features of the environment. The service was formed in response to the Buncefield Oil Depot explosion and fire of December 2005. The primary aim of the service is to quickly bring together experts at the time of a relevant major incident to assess the emissions to air and the risks they posed to people and the environment and to give advice to indent commanders, health practitioners and the public. The key element of the service is the Air Quality Cell (AQC) which is a virtual team of relevant technical experts having core members from the Environment Agency (EA), Public Health England (PHE) and the Met Office (MO). To inform their assessment of the public health and environmental risks posed by emissions from relevant major incidents, the AQC may require air quality data and samples to be obtained on a 24/7/365 response basis.
