## Summary

The Northern Lighthouse Board is conducting a public procurement process for the refurbishment and upgrade of Barra Head Lighthouse, situated in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. This project is classified under various construction works, including electrical installation, plumbing, and civil engineering. The procurement stage is at the award phase, with a tender value of approximately £229,340. Key dates include a completed tender period that ended on 8th July 2019 and a contract period scheduled to commence on 26th August 2019, running until 14th January 2020.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses in the construction and engineering sectors, particularly those capable of handling specialised civil engineering projects in remote locations. Companies with expertise in electrical wiring, plumbing, glazing, and joinery would be well-suited to compete for this contract. The Northern Lighthouse Board encourages small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to consider bidding, given the nature of the work and the potential for growth in servicing similar projects in challenging environments.

## Notice

Barra Head Lighthouse is situated on the southernmost island in the Outer Hebrides, the Island of Berneray, at the southern entrance to the Minch. The light is at a position of 56deg 47.1' North, 07deg 39.2' West. The primary means of access to Barra Head Lighthouse is by helicopter, which is a 45 minute flight from NLB Oban, or 20 minutes flying from Benbecula Airport. There is a boat landing on the island although it is in poor condition and its location makes it extremely exposed to the Atlantic swell and strong tidal stream. It cannot therefore be relied upon for safe access and NLB helicopter will be used as the sole form of access throughout the project. The light is accessed by helicopter, with a designated landing area to the centre of the island. Site Visit - A site visit is scheduled for Thursday 6 June 2019. Attendees will meet at Oban Depot at 08:00 hours for the helicopter. Tenderers wishing to attend the site visit must communicate this via the Delta eSourcing Portal, Messaging Facility no later than 14:00hrs Tuesday 4th of June 2019. Tenderers to provide the name, contact mobile number and Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET) and Compressed Air - Emergency Breathing System Training (CA-EBS) certificates of the representative attending. Please note that due to the use of the helicopter to access the site, the 6th of June 2019 is the only available date for the site visit. Unfortunately if you cannot attend the site visit we will not be able to accept your tender, as this is a critical aspect of the evaluation process due to the nature of the works and the site and is weighted as a Pass/Fail within the evaluation criteria.
