## Summary

The procurement process for the construction of the Whittingham and Goosnargh Sports and Social Club in Preston, Lancashire, is spearheaded by Homes England. This initiative involves the design and construction of a new sports facility, including a clubhouse, football pitch, and multiple other recreational amenities at the former Whittingham Hospital site. Notably, the industry category relates to construction work for leisure, sports, culture, lodging, and restaurants. Initially published on 15th August 2024, the procurement followed an open procedure. The contracting process has reached the award stage, with the contract awarded to Walter Carefoot & Sons (Construction) Ltd on 4th April 2025. The contract's duration extends from 16th May 2025 to 15th May 2028, valued at approximately £6.2 million. Key deadlines included a tender submission that was extended to 25th October 2024.

This contract represents a significant business growth opportunity, particularly for SMEs in the construction and infrastructure sectors, as the project is open to SMEs and not restricted to larger companies. The redevelopment will require extensive ground improvement, structural, mechanical, and electrical works, making it ideal for businesses with expertise in these areas. The project not only promises development in terms of infrastructure but also offers a diverse range of works, including demolition, landscaping, and electrical installations like EV charging stations, thus appealing to a variety of subcontractors and specialist firms. Companies with experience in leisure and recreational facilities, especially those related to sports infrastructure, would be particularly well-suited to benefit from this opportunity.
