## Summary

The procurement process is led by the University of Nottingham for the supply of an Upright wide field microscope designed for remote control and access, primarily for teaching and research purposes. This procurement falls under the goods category, specifically focusing on microscopes. The contract was awarded on 1st February 2022, following a direct procurement method with a single tender action, due to its value of £50,000. The contract period spanned just one day on 1st February 2022, with the award notice published on 22nd June 2022. The delivery is specified for the East Midlands region of the United Kingdom.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses in the scientific equipment sector, particularly those developing advanced imaging technologies or related software solutions. Companies that specialise in innovative microscopy equipment or possess expertise in creating integrated systems for research institutions would find suitable avenues to compete. As the procurement was aimed at enhancing educational and research capabilities, suppliers with a strong focus on collaborative technology and remote access solutions could greatly benefit from this opportunity for business growth.

## Notice

The microscope will be funded as part of a BBSRC Midlands Open bioimaging award and will be used as a remote controlled microscope for teaching and research. We have recently installed two new High Content Imaging systems which were supplied with a suite of bespoke software and cloud processing. The plans are to connect these systems and the new wide field microscope through Zeiss Datastore and operating software to create a microscopy facility that can be controlled and accessed externally by students, research staff, collaborating universities and external research companies. To control and use the microscopes to their full capability requires operation through Zeiss Datastore and Zen OS.
