## Summary

The London Borough of Redbridge has initiated a tender titled "Supporting light freight onto the Thames", aimed at enhancing the use of the river for light freight services in England. This project, classified under Research and development services and related consultancy services (CPV: 73000000), involves a budget of £75,000 and is currently at the award stage, with the contract period commencing on 29 March 2021 and concluding on 30 June 2021. The tender period ended on 22 February 2021, and the contract entails a collaboration with the Thames Estuary Growth Board and other stakeholders to assess economic and environmental impacts while identifying potential locations for light freight operations.

This procurement presents significant growth opportunities for businesses specialising in consultancy services related to transport, logistics, or environmental assessments. Companies capable of conducting comprehensive research and analysis on freight logistics and sustainability can greatly benefit from this project. As the contract seeks to establish a viable light freight market on the Thames, firms with relevant expertise and experience in public sector projects may find this tender particularly appealing, offering a chance to contribute to sustainable urban freight solutions in the region.

## Notice

The Thames Estuary Growth Board, PLA and other partners intend to commission a piece of work to assess the strength of the business case for increasing use of the river by light freight. We will be active partners in the delivery of your work giving you access to data, contacts and background information. The work is intended to quantify the economic, environmental and social benefits of using the river for freight and to map out the end to end process by which commercial providers can go about this. The work will also inform whether there is a case to Government for public investment or additional policy support to create the conditions for a light freight market to develop in its formative stages. Finally, this work will also aim to identify the key origin and destination sites with the greatest potential for light freight.
