## Summary

The Hull City Council is currently undertaking a significant procurement process for the "Renovation and Refurbishment of the Dock Office Chambers and the Grade II* Hull Maritime Museum". This project falls under the construction work category, with a total estimated value of £7,500,000. The procurement method is a selective procedure, and the current stage involves the award of the contract, which was published on 24 August 2021. The works are set to commence on 15 February 2021 and are expected to conclude by 21 October 2022, primarily located in Hull, Yorkshire and the Humber region.

This tender presents a valuable opportunity for construction firms, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) experienced in heritage renovation and refurbishment works. Businesses with expertise in museum construction, architectural services, and installation of facilities are well-suited to compete. Given the scale of the project and its funding through the National Lottery Heritage Fund, interested parties are encouraged to prepare their tenders carefully to meet the revised criteria set by the Council under the restricted competitive procedure.

## Notice

Renovation and Refurbishment of the Dock Office Chambers and the Grade II* Hull Maritime Museum Description: The Council has been successful with a Heritage Lottery bid for the Hull: Yorkshire's Maritime City (HYMC) project. The scale of the whole project is circa PS30m of which the National Lottery Heritage Fund will fund up to PS15m. This is likely to be the last large national project undertaken in the current programme. The project will have an international profile and is the largest grant awarded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. After achieving lottery approval for RIBA 4, the Council is now in a position to seek tenders for the delivery of the works to the major building element of the project; Hull Maritime Museum (HMM) and Dock Office Chambers (DOC). This opportunity has previously been advertised as an open procedure, however the Council has now received approval to undertake a restricted competitive procedure with negotiation to obtain up to six contractors to go forward to the second stage and submit tenders. Previous potential bidders should note the criteria has changed due the different process. Hull: Yorkshire's Maritime City project encompasses the redevelopment of five historic assets across Hull including the Grade II* listed Hull Maritime Museum with a new architectural, servicing and exhibition scheme; the creation of a new collections store at Dock Office Chambers, the refurbishment of both is being procured in this opportunity; the conservation of two historic vessels - the Arctic Corsair and the Spurn Lightship, and the creation of an orientation centre at the vacant North End Shipyard which are procured separately. The project also interacts with the separate redevelopment of Queen's Gardens, one of Hull most important open spaces. The Whole HYMC project explores and celebrates Hull's remarkable maritime history and heritage and puts that heritage at the heart of a place shaping project that will preserve several significant assets and move Hull forward as a world-class visitor destination. This procurement comprises of; Hull Maritime Museum houses the city's extensive and highly significant maritime history collections. The museum is a much-valued part of the cityscape, however, has not been subject to a wholesale architectural and interpretation 'refresh' since it was established in the 1970s. The building now requires repair and rejuvenation to provide a suitable visitor experience, including access for all. The works include; * Increase the areas of the Hull Maritime Museum accessible to the public by rationalising existing spaces for exhibitions, opening up the second floor to visitor facing spaces, creating an atrium in the light well with new walkways at first and second floors and introducing open storage within the basement. * Improving and extending learning and visitor facilities. * Renewing building services and infrastructure. * Repair of the external fabric including upgrading of the roof.
