## Summary

The Science Museum Group has recently completed a public procurement process for the refurbishment of its Lecture Theatre, a crucial facility that accommodates over 75,000 visitors annually. The project falls under the construction works category, specifically focusing on lecture theatre construction and museum construction. The procurement was carried out through an open method, with the tender awarded on 13th March 2017, following a tender period that ended on 6th January 2017. The total value of the contract was £438,194, and the work was executed at the Science Museum located on Exhibition Road, London, with the contract period spanning from 13th March to 5th May 2017.

This refurbishment project presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in construction and renovation, especially those targeting public sector contracts. Companies with experience in constructing educational facilities or those familiar with the unique requirements of museum environments would be particularly well-suited to compete in future tenders. The Science Museum Group's ongoing commitment to enhancing visitor experiences reflects a potential for continuous procurement opportunities in similar projects, making it an attractive prospect for SMEs looking to expand their business in the cultural and educational sector.

## Notice

The Museum's Lecture Theatre is used by over 75,000 visitors a year and is central to our public programme, as it is used daily for live science shows and lectures. The Science Museum is the most visited museum by booked school groups in the UK and has an international reputation for its excellence in programming for STEM education. The current space looks tired and worn, and extraneous build conceals the original structure and does not make best use of the space available. The current environment is far from an appropriate setting for the important and popular part of the Museum's programme offer it serves. This project aims to significantly improve our visitors' experience in one of our most impactful public spaces. This project forms part of the Museum's Masterplan, which will improve the experience of our visitors for generations to come through well considered and beautiful design.
