## Summary

The British Film Institute (BFI) has awarded a contract to Nordicity Limited for the project titled "Research On Training Routes From Education To Employment - AWARD" within the industry category of research consultancy services (CPV 73210000). This procurement aims to analyse barriers in digital content production sectors such as animation, post-production, visual effects, virtual production, and artificial intelligence, and to recommend bridging programmes to enhance technical training routes. The procurement process followed an open procedure, with key dates including the contract start on 20 November 2024 and end on 29 August 2025. The study will be carried out in two stages, with detailed reports for each stage focusing on specific sectors. The tender encompasses locations in the United Kingdom and various global regions.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses involved in research and consultancy services, particularly those specialising in digital content production and education-to-employment pathways. Companies with expertise in identifying and addressing industry training barriers will find this project highly relevant. SMEs are encouraged to participate, paving the way for growth through contributions to a high-impact study endorsed by a reputable institution like the BFI. Successful completion of this contract could lead to enhanced reputations and further opportunities within the sector.

## Notice

The current skills provision in both the film and High-End Television (HETV) industries (sometimes referred to as 'physical' production) and digital content production sectors (including animation, post-production, video games, visual effects (VFX), virtual production and Artificial Intelligence (AI) has varying levels of suitability to meet the demand for current and future skills and job roles. Due to a disconnect between industry and formal training routes, courses delivered by Further Education Institutions (FEIs) and Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) are often seen as being too generic in their focus and with insufficient signposting of career opportunities and occupational need. The aim of this study is to analyse and understand the barriers that restrict the digital content production (animation, post-production, visual effects, virtual production, and artificial intelligence) sectors' ability to engage effectively with technical training and skills routes, and to recommend key opportunities for the sector to benefit from effective bridging programmes. The study scope will be split into two stages, with the first stage focusing on the animation, post-production, visual effects, virtual production, and artificial intelligence (AI) sectors, and the second stage (if awarded) focusing on the video games sector. Both stages are included in the research scope within this invitation to tender. We will expect the supplier to undertake the two stages sequentially and to produce separate reports for each stage.
