## Summary

The procurement process for the provision of equipment for the ERDF Manchester Fuel Cell Innovation Centre (MFCIC) is conducted by Manchester Metropolitan University, located in Lancashire, United Kingdom. This procurement falls under the goods category, specifically focusing on fuel cells, classified under CPV code 31122100. The procurement was initiated with an open procedure, and the award was published on 19 December 2017, with a total contract value of £1,700,000. The contract is set to span from 16 October 2017 to 15 October 2020, and the delivery address includes a wide range of locations, including various British Overseas Territories and the United Kingdom.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses in the advanced materials and renewable energy sectors, specifically those involved in the manufacturing of modular fuel cell units and associated technologies. Companies focusing on innovative energy solutions, engineering services, and scientific installations would be particularly well-suited to compete. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are encouraged, and participation in this procurement could enhance their visibility and growth potential in the expanding fuel cell market.

## Notice

The focus of the MFCIC is advanced materials for fuel cells. The University requires a suite of modular low power fuel cells units (PEM, SOFC, etc.) which can be used to test our materials and to conduct condition-monitoring experiments. A suite of cells and associated hydrogen generation facilities will also be required. These units will also be used in our teaching/training activities. A wide range of liquid and gaseous fuels can be reformed into hydrogen. Our activities in this field will include: i) exploring metallic and organic/inorganic catalyst materials produced via wet-chemical synthesis ii) bimetallic catalysts will also be explored where the active nanomaterial is immobilised onto larger micro materials which, results in greater surface areas but keep costs low; iii) exploring a range of mesoporous oxides as heterogeneous catalysts with varying compositions, surface structure and functionality towards clean-up efficiency iv) coating of identified catalysts onto a range of materials such as planar and 3D microstructures. A catalytic testing rig is required to measure the efficiency/effectiveness of our materials.
