## Summary

The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority initiated a public procurement process titled "STEP concept development for separation of Isotopes for Fusion Materials", which focuses on services related to basic metals. This procurement is classified under various codes including chemical products and engineering design services, and it is located in the South East of England. The tender was completed on 22nd December 2021, with the contract period spanning from 17th January 2022 to 30th April 2022. The procurement followed an open procedure, allowing for broad competition among suppliers.

This tender represents a significant opportunity for businesses specialised in advanced materials development, particularly those with expertise in isotope separation technologies. Companies engaged in engineering design services, research and development, and chemical processing would be well-suited to compete for this contract. The UKAEA is looking to partner with innovative suppliers capable of proposing integrated technological solutions, making this an attractive prospect for SMEs in the relevant sectors aiming to expand their market reach.

## Notice

The STEP Programme and wider UKAEA programmes related to advanced materials development are seeking to explore technology options to provide scalable solutions for isotope separation in metals. Possible solutions include (but are not limited to) electromagnetic techniques to separate ionized materials, selective laser-based ionization, distillation methods involving liquid phases, gas-based separation via centrifuges, and chemical processes based on ion exchange, electrolysis, or electrolytic methods. UKAEA would like to partner with the industry to explore different technologies and their possibilities. At this stage, this (interaction) could be with companies with key expertise in specific elements of the technology solutions, for example in the production of ion/atomic beams, or with knowledge of ion collection and extraction. Alternatively, we would welcome bids from suppliers with capabilities to develop novel integrated solutions, bringing together various technologies to develop a full isotope separation methodology.
