## Summary

The Science Museum Group is currently inviting tenders for the construction of a Special Exhibition Gallery, part of the museum's masterplan aimed at enhancing visitor experience and connectivity to the historic site in Manchester, located between Castlefield and St. Johns Quarter. The selected tender will involve a budget of £2,700,000, with the tender period concluding on 29 May 2019. The project is classified under CPV code 45212300, which pertains to construction work for art and cultural buildings. The anticipated contract will commence on 4 November 2019 and span until 14 July 2020, executed through a selective procurement method under a restricted procedure.

This tender presents significant growth opportunities for construction firms, particularly those specialised in cultural and heritage projects. Companies that excel in architectural finishes, building services enhancements, and accessibility improvements will be well-positioned to compete for this contract, given the detailed work required to create a new gallery space within the Science and Industry Museum. The nature of this project calls for skilled contractors with experience in delivering complex construction work that aligns with the needs of cultural institutions, making it crucial for interested bidders to demonstrate relevant expertise and capabilities.

## Notice

The Special Exhibition Gallery is the first project of the Science and Industry Museum masterplan. The masterplan aims to consider the site holistically at a strategic level, improving the relationship between buildings and external spaces as well as connect visitors to the historic site, creating a destination with character. The proposed Special Exhibitions Gallery will be located at the Museum's existing site which is located on Liverpool Road, to the west of the centre of Manchester between Castlefield, to the south, and St. Johns Quarter to the north. The new gallery space will be used as a showcase for temporary exhibitions shared between partner museum sites, with a number of featured exhibitions being installed and decanted per year. The gallery space will be c. 720sqm for temporary exhibitions with robust environmental controls, supported by a front-of-house reception facility and retail space. The scheme includes modifications to hard landscaping on the external approach to improve accessibility and address level differences on the route into the new space for visitors and museum objects. The works contract comprises full demolition/strip out, replacement and enhancement of all building services, and all new architectural finishes.
