## Summary

The Chesterfield Canal Trust Limited has initiated a procurement process for the "Environmental Framework & Action Plan - Doe Lea Valley," under the industry category of environmental engineering consultancy services. This project is located in the East Midlands, United Kingdom, and pertains to addressing the environmental challenges inherited from industrial activities in the Doe Lea River catchment area. The tender was initially published on 27th May 2025, with a closing date for submissions on 8th July 2025. The procurement method employed is an open procedure, suitable for SMEs and VCSEs, with an estimated contract value of £75,000. The procurement has successfully transitioned to the award stage as of 4th August 2025, with Treligan trading as Novascape Limited being the successful supplier. The contract period began on 30th July 2025 and will end on 28th February 2026.

This tender presents a significant business opportunity for consultancies specialising in environmental engineering services, particularly those capable of collaborative work within a catchment partnership framework. Companies in the SME category or those in the voluntary, community, and social enterprise sectors are well-suited for this contract, given the open procurement method supporting such entities. The project aims to leverage partnership and community-driven approaches to deliver sustainable environmental improvements, providing the participating business with the potential to showcase their expertise in developing frameworks and action plans that can lead to further opportunities as follow-up work may be commissioned.

## Notice

The river Doe Lea has suffered a lot with the industrial legacy of north Derbyshire & north Nottinghamshire, particularly from mining and the rapid expansion of communities to serve the mines and other industry. Significant effort has been invested in the last 40 years in cleaning up the river, but there remains a lot to do. Through the Don, Dearne & Rother Network catchment partnership, interested parties have been meeting to share their plans and ambitions for the catchment. It is clear to these parties that there are significant opportunities for partnership working on a catchment scale to expand the scope of intervention and deliver real positive changes to the river environment and the wider catchment. To inform the work above, the partners have secured funding through the Water Restoration Fund to develop an Environmental Framework for the Doe Lea Valley and to develop an Action Plan for the delivery of a first trial phase. On behalf of the partners, the Chesterfield Canal Trust is now seeking consultants to deliver this work. Further work may be commissioned at a later date to monitor and evaluate the success of interventions and to refine and develop the Action Plan for future phases, subject to future funding and endorsement by the partners. The details of this phase of the work and the tender administration process are set out in full in the attached Project Brief, or by contacting the Chesterfield Canal Trust Development Manager, George Rogers, development@chesterfield-canal-trust.org.uk
