The citizen science project will include setting up the system for collecting data on the depth of peat and the collection of the data, which will be used subsequently and outside the scope of this tender to inform management of fens and water. The long-term objectives are: - to use the data to decide future interventions in peatlands (such as where to create turf ponds) - to maintain a record of the evolution of peat depths over time (historic resources) - to better understand the vegetation by understanding the depth and quality of peat that it is rooting into - to shape and influence future policy related to peatland management.
