## Summary

The procurement process involves the Department for International Development (DFID) seeking engineering management services to rehabilitate the critical water supply system in Freetown, Sierra Leone. The contract, valued at £34.7 million, was awarded to IMC Worldwide Limited following an open tender procedure initiated to address the city's insufficient and vulnerable water supply, primarily reliant on the outdated Guma Dam. The tender period has concluded, with the contract expected to run from 8th May 2017 to 8th September 2019.

This opportunity presents significant growth potential for businesses specialised in engineering and water supply management, particularly those with a focus on international development projects. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary community sector enterprises (VCSEs) with expertise in providing similar services can leverage this contract to enhance their market presence in humanitarian and infrastructure projects. Participation in such contracts bolsters experience and credibility in the industry, setting the stage for future opportunities.

## Notice

The Rehabilitation of Freetown's Water Supply System project was approved by the Secretary of State for International Development in June 2016. The main elements of the proposed rehabilitation works have been identified by GVWC engineers with support from a DFID funded Technical Assistance programme. The Evidence on Demand 'Engineering Review Report' details the Works to be rehabilitated as part of the this project The water supply to Freetown is in a critical situation. It relies principally on a single source, Guma Dam, which was built in the early 1960s, supplies only around half of the city's theoretical demand and is vulnerable to climate effects. Inadequate water from municipal systems forces the population to seek informal sources seriously increasing the hazards to health and the risk of disease.
