These conditions are all linked to the following four lifestyle risk factors. * Smoking * Excess alcohol * Poor diet (linked also to obesity) * Physical inactivity These behaviours are responsible for 40% of disability adjusted life years (years lost due to ill-health, disability or early death) in the UK. Yet for many people, they can be modified by a change in lifestyle and can help people significantly reduce their risk of disease and help to achieve long-term health as well as health and social care and wider system savings.
