## Summary

The procurement process for the "Landscape Assessment" project, initiated by the Department for Transport, focuses on assessing the impact of East West Rail route options on the landscape setting of Wimpole Hall, a Grade One listed building owned by the National Trust. This project falls under the services industry, specifically urban planning and landscape architectural services, and has a total contract value of £26,940. The procurement method employed was a direct single tender action, and the contract period commenced on 27th September 2018 and concluded on 28th February 2019.

This contract presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in landscape architecture and urban planning, particularly those with experience in working with historic sites and sensitive environments. Companies that are adept at conducting thorough landscape assessments and can demonstrate an understanding of the implications of transport projects on heritage sites would be well-suited to compete for similar future contracts. Engaging with this type of work may also foster partnerships with entities like the National Trust, as well as enhance a business's reputation within the industry.

## Notice

Landscape assessment of impact of East West Rail route options on Wimpole Hall Wimpole Hall is a Grade One listed building which is owned by the National Trust along with the adjoining estate. One of the key attractions of Wimpole Hall is its landscape setting, including a 4 km long avenue running South with views to the Royston Hills and its location to the North to SSSIs and ancient woodland. East West Railway Company is currently considering route options for a new build section of the railway between Bedford and Cambridge. The National Trust is concerned to ensure that views down the 4km avenue as well as views to the South more generally are not significantly adversely affected by route options which might either traverse the avenue or potentially go further South across land currently owned by MoD at RAF Bassingbourn.
