## Summary

The Cornwall Badger Vaccination Pilot represents a unique opportunity for scientific advancement in the field of veterinary services. Managed by Defra, this pilot aims to transition from badger culling to vaccination as the primary method for controlling TB in badgers, in alignment with government pledges. This procurement process, classified under CPV code 85200000 for veterinary services, is located in the South West region of the United Kingdom. The tender has progressed to the award stage with Defra as the buyer and NFU as the supplier. The contract spans an extensive period from 6th June 2025 to 5th December 2028, with a substantial funding amount of £1,370,231.07 GBP made available through a negotiated procedure without prior publication.

This pilot project offers a significant opportunity for businesses involved in veterinary services to expand their operations, especially those with expertise in animal vaccination and research. Though the procurement is not focused on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) or voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs), it presents a chance for larger firms with the capability to deliver complex and large-scale vaccination projects. Companies that can provide innovative solutions in animal welfare and disease control are well-positioned to benefit from this initiative, potentially enhancing their role in shaping future government policies and contributing to significant scientific evidence against badger culling.

## Notice

Defra requires a three-year contract for badger vaccination and research activities in three (3) pilot areas in Cornwall. There will be three (3) different approaches to badger vaccination delivery carried out under this Pilot: Annual, Bi-annual and Reactive, with TB blood tests carried out on a proportion of the badgers. This unique pilot aims to provide scientific evidence in support of the Government manifesto pledge to stop badger culling and move to badger vaccination as the main form of TB control in badgers.
