## Summary

Newcastle University is seeking tenders for the supply and installation of a Very High Cycle Fatigue Test Machine, an essential piece of equipment for their research within the UK Rail Research and Innovation Network. This procurement falls under the Goods category, specifically for instruments used to check physical characteristics, with a budget of £150,000. The tender is currently in the active stage, with a submission deadline set for 20 December 2019. This contract will commence on 8 January 2020 and run until 31 March 2020, with delivery required in the North East region of England.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses in the manufacturing and engineering sectors, particularly those specialising in testing equipment or advanced machinery. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with expertise in the procurement of scientific instruments or those capable of providing installation and maintenance services would be ideal candidates to compete for this contract. Successful bidders will not only gain a valuable contract but also the potential for future collaboration with Newcastle University on research projects.

## Notice

Newcastle University is a partner of the Joint Rolling Stock Centre of Excellence which will form part of the UK Rail Research and Innovation Network (UKRRIN), funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE). As part of this project, Newcastle University wishes to tender for a very high cycle fatigue test machine that is capable of operating at a significantly higher frequency and would be capable of reaching 10(power10) cycles in under 6 days. Such equipment would allow Newcastle University to meet the increasing demand for fatigue data in the 10 (power 8) to 10 (power 10) cycle range. Furthermore, the test machine would allow screening tests up to 10 (power 7) cycles to be completed in a matter of weeks rather than months which would aid the downselection of candidate steels for research and development projects. The test machine could also be used to support student research activities in a range of different fields. The scope of this contract is for the supply, delivery and installation of the equipment detailed in the Invitation to Tender document to the University, with after-sales support and 12 months warranty and maintenance
